Two groups of Atlas employees recently spent two afternoons clearing the ditch around the White Tower at L-Aħrax tal-Mellieha. The Tower and its surroundings had been left abandoned for over 15 years and wild vegetation had taken over the whole area.

Equipped with gardening gloves and shears, all the staff, under the guidance of the Restoration Project co-ordinator Martin Vella, began by clearing the ditch from high weeds and dead bushes. They then removed all the cut wood from the ditch by hand.

Staff members made use of Atlas Volunteering Leave, a scheme launched to provide an additional two days leave for each staff member to use for any volunteering initiatives with charitable institutions or NGOs.

This Corporate Social Responsibility project was organised as part of the larger sponsorship project over three years where Atlas is supporting Din l-Art Helwa in respect of the restoration of the fort. Atlas will be sponsoring the restoration of the British period guardroom which will be used as a multi-purpose room for meetings and events.

Din l-Art Helwa thanked Atlas Insurance and all employees who took part in this activity for finding time to help in this restoration project.
