The Civil Society Network, in a statement, said that it is preoccupied with Finance Minister Edward Scicluna's attitude with regards to questions put to him about former FIAU officials Jonathan Ferris and Charles Cronin.
The Civil Society Network (CSN) has been asking the minister questions related to the sacking of the two FIAU officials, asking whether the minister was involved or not.
"The Network reminds Minister Scicluna that the position he holds has the sole and exclusive purpose of being of service to the Maltese and therefore it is imperative that the Minister gives a proper account of his activities and of the practices followed by the entities which fall under his responsibility."
Civil Society Network once again asked the Minister of Finance to inform the public as to whether he was ever involved in a conversation (whether in person or by means of any other form of communication) with any member of the Board of Governors or with any official or employee of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit, or with any member of the Police Force where the former Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit officials Jonathan Ferris and Charles Cronin or any one of them were mentioned."
CSN also asked the minister "whether he ever received from any member of the Board of Governors or from any official or employee of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit, or from any member of the Police Force any communication in which Jonathan Ferris and Charles Cronin or any one of them were/was mentioned.
They also asked whether the minister ever requested (directly or indirectly) any information on the two from any member of the Board of Governors or from any official or employee of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Uni,t or from any member of the Police Force.
Lastly, they asked to specify, if such conversations and communication and/or request took place, whether such conversation or request took place before or after Jonathan Ferris and Charles Cronin were informed that their employment with FIAU was being terminated, and to reveal with whom such a conversation took place or request was made.
"It is vital for Malta to establish the truth with regard to the resignations of Police Commissioner Michael Cassar and FIAU Director Manfred Galdes and with regard to the termination of employment of FIAU officials Jonathan Ferris and Charles Cronin. A lack of will to do this would mean that Institutional Omerta' exists in Malta."
