Malta has a total of 2,171 police officers

There are a total of 2,171 members of the police corps, according to statistics provided by Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia.

The minister was responding to a parliamentary question asked by PN MP Karol Aquilina.

The figure includes a total of 1,370 constables, 190 reserve constables, 415 Sergeants, 32 second class Sergeant Majors, 4 first class Sergeant Majors, 132 inspectors, 11 Superintendents, 12 Assistant Commissioners, 4 Deputy Commissioners and the Police Commissioner.

On 4 December, a total of 41 reserve police constables were sworn in eight of whom are women, thereby bolstering the numbers of reserve constables.
