Spate of theft attempts from Cottonera churches continues

Wednesday, 13 December 2017, 16:04 Last update: about 7 years ago

Thieves managed to break into St Lawrence parish church in Vittoriosa on Tuesday night, but they only got some coins from collection boxes.

The break-in followed the usual method of climbing on scaffolding, which was on the facade of a private property next to the church. Once on the roof, the thieves broke down a door and gained access to the church.

But with all gold and precious items having been removed as a precaution, they only got away with two collection boxes containing some coins.

Earlier this year thieves climbed scaffolding and stole precious items from Cospicua church. The items have since been recovered and arraignments have been made.

Last week an attempt at theft was made at the Senglea church. A similar burglary was made at Zejtun church.
