Schools rally behind the 14th L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank campaign

Thursday, 14 December 2017, 11:14 Last update: about 7 years ago

The 14th edition of the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign is swiftly approaching its final stage where piggy banks are collected from all schools in Malta and Gozo, sorted and collected.

Once again, Mr Preca's commitment to this campaign was evident with his visits to a number of schools around Malta and Gozo to promote the value of solidarity, which is at the heart of this campaign. Mr Preca received a warm welcome in all the schools he visited where he had the opportunity to speak about the importance of a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of disease and the value of solidarity and helping others.

"The demands on the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation are always on the increase, due to the rise in new cases, as well as the ever-increasing cost of health-care and medication," said Mr Preca. "The Foundation needs thousands of euros every day to be in a position to help those who require its assistance, so all the little donations received add up to a considerable sum that we need to fulfill our mission."

"What started as a small campaign 14 years ago has now become synonymous with the L-Istrina effort and to date, we have presented over €1.3m to L-Istrina from money collected and donations by the bank," said Charles Azzopardi, executive PR & Marketing at Bank of Valletta while accompanying Mr Preca on a number of school visits. "We are now looking forward to the most intensive phase when all the coins are collected, sorted and counted. This is a process that fills us with satisfaction as it bears testimony to the solidarity expressed by the younger generation."

The funds collected through the campaign, including the bank's donation, will be presented during the live broadcast of L-Istrina on 26 December.
