Zejtun C               1

Mqabba               5

Mqabba were in splendid form yesterday demolishing their opponents and scoring four goals in the first half to wrap the match and obtain three precious points that consolidate their third place in the standings.

Mqabba were too strong for Zejtun yesterday with Trebovac in a class of his own.

Mqabba were in a class of their own in the first half with Tomislav Trebovac creating havoc for the Zejtun rearguard in the twenty minutes he stayed on the field of play. On six minutes Trebovac was on the mark when he lobbed beautifully from an acute angle on the left.

Zejtun failed to react and Mqabba were all  over the place and doubled the score ten minutes later when Tomislav Trebovac headed home a perfect cross from the left from Gianfranco Micallef. Sixty seconds later Trebovac was unlucky when he hit the upright with another lob.

Trebovac was a delight to watch and he hit the side netting on twenty minutes when he unluckily limped off. Zejtun also lost defender Giordemaina as both teams were forced to an early substitution.

On 25 minutes Mqabba made it three when Gianfranco Micallef beat the offside trap dribbled past a defender to score a great goal with a low drive. Five minutes from the break Mqabba scored a fourth when De Melo handled inside the box and from the penalty spot Michael Borg sent Zarb the wrong way to make it four.

Five minutes into the second half Mqabba made it five when Gianfranco Micallef played the ball towards Rennie Tanti who hammered the ball home from an angle. Four minutes later Mqabba were down to ten men when Luke vella Critien was shown a straight red, even though it was not an obvious chance of goal.

Zejtun pushed everything forward and Yessous Camilleri’s header hit the upright and from the rebound Debono saved Camilleri’s point blank effort. On 78 minutes Zejtun pulled one back with a Yessous Camilleri header.

Six minutes from time Zejtun were reduced to ten men when Emerson Vella was sent off for dissent.

Zebbug cruise to easy victory

Zebbug R             5

Marsa                   0

Zebbug returned to winning ways with a nap hand victory over a sorry Marsa side that are now deep in relegation trouble. The match was too one-sided as Zebbug dominated from start to finish and Marsa nwere practically never in the game.

Kovacic played a blinder and scored a good opening goal, but it was a general fine display from Winston Muscat’s side who canj still have their say in the promotion race when we are yet to reach the half way stage.

Zebbug took the lead on six minutes when Aleksander Kovacic was impressive on the right  making his way inside the area before beating Galea on the first post. Marsa had nothing or little to offer and Zebbug doubled the score on 27 minutes when Arilson Mello Da Silva scored from close range following a Mallia cross from the right.

Zebbug were now dominating and a Steven Schembri lob was cleared off the goal line by a Marsa defender and from the clearance Larson Mallia fired wide when well placed. Just before the break a Mello Da Silva scorcher from 30 meters went slightly over the bar.

Nine minutes into the second half Zebbug sealed the issue with a third goal when Kurt Zammit nipped in to anticipate a hesitant Bonello in the Marsa defence and fired home from the edge of the area.

The game was now dead and buried and Zebbug scored a fourth goal half way through the second half when Steven Schembri slotted home from close range. It was not over for Marsa however as they suffered a fifth go0al two minutes from time when substitute Luke Gatt headed home from close range.

Żebbuġ R: J. Farrugia, M. Attard (A. Micallef 75 min), S. Schembri, F. Gusman, R. DA Silva Gomes, C. Gauci, A. Curmi (M. Bonnici 71 min), K. Zammit, L. Mallia, A. Mello Da Silva (L. Gatt 80 min), A. Kovacic.

Marsa: W. Galea, E. Grech, M. Busuttil (J. Bonello 52 min), J. Farrugia, M. Gauci, R. Alegria-Jimenez, N. Micallef, M. Camilleri, D. Galubovic (M. Mifsud 68 min), D. Pirotta (F. Pellegrino 76 min), R. Mercieca.
