The Board of Governors of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit denied threatening the Times of Malta, a statement issued through the Department of Information said.

It referred to the article titled “L-FIAU thedded lil The Times wara storja dwar laqgħa ‘stramba’ fl-uffiċini tal-FIAU” which was published on the website of netnews.com.mt on Sunday 17 December 2017.

The story made reference to a post by MEP David Casa on his Facebook page published on Sunday 17 December 2017 stating “The FIAU have written to the editor of Times of Malta this morning in an attempt to silence its critics”.  

The FIAU “categorically denies” having written to the Editor of The Times of Malta on Sunday 17 December 2017 as claimed in the media, and in the most forceful manner refutes any allegations that the FIAU has ever threatened The Times of Malta in any way whatsoever.  Consequently, the allegations are a complete fabrication and are totally untrue.
