Archbishop Charles Scicluna spoke of the importance of creating an environment where young people are listened to while exchanging festive greetings with the members of the public.

Addressing a small crowd at the Curia, the Archbishop referred to the fact that, next year, bishops from around the world will be meeting the Pope in Rome.

He mentioned that, prior to this meeting, he will organise discussions with local young people in order to listen to their concerns and their hopes, while also passing on a message of encouragement and hope.

"This year, I invite families to create an environment in which we not only show young people how much we love and care for them, but also listen to them," he said.

The Archbishop quoted St Paul, and highlighted the importance of giving young people hope, allowing them the opportunity to express what is in their hearts.

He referred to Valletta 2018 and the European Capital of Culture, saying that people should look for beauty that can bring them closer to God and pointing out that beauty affects the quality of life. He referred to the beauty in Malta's cultural heritage, in the environment and in the words we exchange between ourselves.

Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona, and Vicar General Joe Galea Curmi were also present, exchanging greetings with the public.
