Assistant police commissioner resigns after report filed against him

Assistant Police Commissioner Mario Tonna has resigned after a report of domestic abuse filed by his partner, Times of Malta reports.

His letter of resignation was accepted by the Police Commissioner.

The officer’s partner filed a report at the Sliema police station on December 28, according to a story reported in In-Nazzjon.

Tonna was in charge of coordinating traffic, the police garage and mechanical transport section.

In 2011, Tonna, then an inspector, had been found guilty of various criminal offences, including intimidating and harassing his superior, Superintendent Carmelo Bartolo. He was promoted to assistant commissioner in 2015.
