The Labour Party will be giving an extra day of leave to its employees for all public holidays falling on a weekend this year, party CEO Randolph De Battista said.

There will be four public holidays falling on a weekend this year. The government, the last budget, had announced that all workers will be given 25 days of leave instead of 24 to kick of the process leading up to a decision on public holidays falling on weekend. Employers have expressed themselves against the idea.

In his statement, De Battista said that the Labour Party must lead by example and be the first to implement the promise made by the PL in its election programme. The PL wants to send a strong message, also at a time when the economy is doing well.

“If we can do it as a party that relies on donations and so much voluntary work, so can companies benefiting from a strong economy,” he said.
