Often the location of a film is a key contributor to its wider success. Even the most iconic on-screen moments can owe as much to where they take place, as to the actors who appear in them.
As Valetta is declared European Capital of Culture for 2018, these the most popular film locations in Malta

1. Valetta - Fort St Elmo, (Harbour of Jerusalem Murder on the Orient Express, World War Z, Captain Phillips) 20 movies were filmed there
2. Gozo Island - Ramla Bay (Game of Thrones - Season 1, By the Sea) 18 movies were filmed there
3. Kalkara - Fort Ricasoli, (Gladiator) 10 movies were filmed there
4. Comino -Blue Lagoon (The Count of Monte Cristo, Troy) seven movies were filmed there
5. Senglea (Immediate Boarding), five movies filmed there

Every year more movies are filmed in Malta, in addition to the 242 ones filmed there in the past 20 years.
