A 42-year-old man from Ghaxaq today was denied bail after he pleaded not guilty to stealing religious artefacts, involuntary causing damage to third-party property and voluntarily causing damage of property worth upwards of €2,500.
The court heard how Joseph Attard had targeted 15 churches in the past. Attard is accused of stealing two rosay beads from a titular statue and cash from a donation box between 8 and 9 October 2017.
Further charges were filed dating back to 2003 where he is accused of stealing cash, Hi Fi equipment and tobacco products, voluntarily damage property and relapsing.
Defence lawyers put forward a request for bail however presiding magistrate Joe Mifsud, considering all relevant factors, denied the request.
