Friday, 19 January 2018, 09:22 Last update: about 7 years ago

6,658 tonnes of plastic, metal, and paper was collected for recycling in 2017 almost 300 tonnes fewer than the minimum collected since 2012, while 2,379 tonnes of glass was also recycled.

The information was provided by Minister for the Environment Jose Herrera, in reply to parliamentary questions by MPs Marthese Portelli and Godfrey Farrugia.

With regards to plastic, metal, and paper, the figures show a marked decrease in recycling, with 11,538 tonnes of the materials collected the year before, especially when considering that the collection exceeded 9,500 tonnes in every year since 2012 (10,500 in 2012, 10,591 in 2013, 10,509 in 2014, and 9,547 in 2015).
