PN Secretary General Clyde Puli has said that he does not view the Partit Demkratiku as a threat.

During an interview with The Malta Independent, in response to a question regarding the PN's relationship with the PD, and whether he views them as a threat, he said:  "I do not view the PD as a threat, and frankly I do not think they could ever be a serious challenger."

He stressed that the relationship with the PD was intended for the election, and if the coalition won the election. "But regardless of this, after the election, we decided that, given that they got two seats, then why not try and work together. I was all for finding a way to work together. Let me be clear, I did not want that alliance before the election, but since it occurred and they got two seats - and I believe that was on the back of the PN as they do not have the numbers to get two elected -  we decided to try work with them. But there was a line that was clearly crossed."

"I was the one to put forward the motion to cut away from the PD in a clear and formal way... But on a case by case basis, why shouldn't we work together? For example I just re-signed, with Godfrey Farrugia, to set up a committee in favour of life in Parliament. It is an issue I believe in."

Referring to the PD, he said: "You used our stage, our vehicle, used our finances, used our media, and then you say you want to interfere in my electoral process, say you want to become my leader, say you will not accept my leader, and say so much more, then hold on. Good governance does not work like that. That is not good governance, that is pure opportunism. So the line was cut, from here on out we will work on a case by case basis."

During the interview, he also spoke about the PN's restructuring plan.
