Conventions Malta, together with the Malta Tourism Authority's Events and Marketing Team, are proud to announce that this year's Medigames, otherwise known as the World Medical and Health Games, are going to take place in Malta between 16 and 23 June.
These Games have become the most famous world health event open to members of the medical and health professions since their inception, thirty years ago.
The World Medical and Health Games are an opportunity for participants of all levels to compete together and to play their favourite sports in an atmosphere of friendship and excitement.
Each year, up to 1,700 people participate in this sporting and professional gathering, representing over 70 countries. More than 20 sports events are included in the event, and six age categories are allowed to participate.
Furthermore, an International Symposium on Sports Medicine, is held, parallel to the competitions. This Symposium, comprising of three half-days, has become a fundamental aspect of the games over the years, receiving the support of recognized institutions such as the International Federation of Sports Medicine, the Latin and Mediterranean Sports Medicine Association, and the Panathon Club International.
Malta Tourism Authority CEO Paul Bugeja expressed satisfaction at the fact that Malta is the chosen destination for Medigames. He noted that apart from the games, a programme of entertainment is being organised during the participants and their families' stay, which includes further sporting, cultural and festive outings. Mr Bugeja held that the Maltese Islands lend themselves beautifully towards this and with such major event being organised here, it continues to prove that Malta can offer an all year round venue for any type of multiple event.
Tourism Minister Konrad Mizziheld that such events further confirm Malta as in ideal destination for conferences, corporate events, and tailor-made activities. He pointed out that Conventions Malta was specifically set for that aim and is reaping benefits by attracting different sectors to visit Malta for this aim.
Medigames are organizing a press conference on Thursday, 25 January, at the Marsa Royal Golf Club, in order to present Medigames to the Maltese public.
