Twenty-four students from Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary, Naxxar took part in the Euroscola programme. Last week these students travelled to Strasbourg to participate in debates on topics related to the work of the European Union ranging from the Environment to Migration, Europe's Future, Human Rights, Culture and Youth Employment.

The Maltese students had the opportunity to debate and share their views with almost 485 students from 20 member states of the European Union. The committee meetings and discussion sessions took place in the official seat of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where members of the European Parliament attend the plenary sessions.

Just like the members of the European Parliament, the students nominated and elected their representatives, chairpersons and rapporteurs. At the end of the debates they also voted for or against proposals.

The trip also included a visit to the Council of Europe and excursions to the city of Strasbourg and the town of Colmar. Students and teachers were welcomed by Joseph Filletti, Malta's Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, who explained to the group the distinction between the Council of Europe and the European Council, the work of the council and its institutions.

For selection, students had to sit for an exam organised by the European Parliament Representation in Malta. 

The students were accompanied by their teachers Amii Bartolo, Adrian Muscat and Piera Xuereb.
