Watch - PM’s playlist for concert: Our suggestions (and you may send us other songs)

Thursday, 1 February 2018, 10:09 Last update: about 7 years ago

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be holding a concert playing the Prime Minister’s favourite songs in aid of a charity run by his wife Michelle Muscat.

On a day when Malta fell several places in the “democracy score” of The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index, the announcement of this concert largely has been met with disapproval.

For one thing, such concerts are normally held in countries where leaders are idolised and considered as “supreme”.

More than this, the fact that the chosen charity for which funds will be raised is one run by the PM’s wife adds more disdain in the eyes of detractors.

Amid all this chorus, we have taken the liberty, tongue in cheek, to propose the following songs to form part of the playlist:

1) Michelle (The Beatles – especially dedicated to his wife)

2) In questo mondo di ladri (Antonello Venditti)

3) Panama (Van Halen)

4) I want it all (Queen)

14) Careless whisper (George Michael – to be performed by the whistle-blower)

15) Fields of gold (Sting - to be performed by persons of trust awarded lucrative contracts)

16) If you can’t beat them (Queen – to be performed by Nationalist Party)
