Saturday, 3 February 2018, 12:44 Last update: about 7 years ago

Government has nominated Mr Justice Peter G. Xuereb to serve as a judge on the European Court of Justice, after Mr Justice Anthony Borg Barthet's term will end this year.

Mr Justice Borg Barthet served in this post since 2004.

If government's nominee is approved, Mr Justice Xuereb will begin working in his new pst come October 2018, for a period of six years.

In this eventuality, government said, the process will begin to fill the position Mr Justice Xuereb currently holds on the EU's General Court. He had taken up this post in 2016.

Mr Justice Xuereb was the Head of the University of Malta's European and Comparative Law Department. He graduated as a lawyer in 1977. He has also served as a consultant on several aspects of national and European law.
