Francesca Curmi winner G2 ITF Under 18

Francesca Curmi, at the young age of 15, is the first ever Maltese player to win an ITF U18 Grade 2 Junior tournament.

This tournament win is another milestone for Francesca and improves her world-ranking to one of the top junior players of the world.

Throughout the week in Tunisia, Francesca had a number of tough opponents namely Flavie Brugnone (FRA) 3-6 6-3 6-0; Destinee Martins (GBR) 2-6 6-3 6-1, considered to be one of Britain's answer to the William sisters; Selma Stefania Cadar (ROM) 6-1 6-2 ranked second under 18 in Romania and Anastasia Tikhonova (RUS) 7-6(7) 5-7 6-4, a team member of the under 16 Russian European winning team. In the final Francesca beat Carole Monnet (FRA) 5-7 7-5 6-3. Francesca played over 14 hours of competitive tennis in five days.

During this year, Francesca will be competing in various ITF Junior and Pro Tournaments and will be playing for Malta both in the Federation Cup and the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

Francesca trained in Serbia for two years, between the age of 12 and 14, and has been training with the Asciak Tennis Academy together with tennis coach Matthew Asciak and physical trainer Dalibor Susa from Croatia for the past five months.
