Malta's leading cycling outlet, The Cyclist and the organisers of the Tour Ta' Malta have just announced the support of The Cyclist towards this year's edition of the Tour.

Twenty four years have passed since the first edition the Tour Ta' Malta, or the Tour as it is referred to in local cycling circles, and this event has grown and attracted a large number of international cyclists who descend on Malta for a four day road cycling feast.

The Tour will be split into four stages, starting with a Time Trial on the Baħar iċ-Ċaghaq Coast Road on Thursday 22nd March.  The following stages will consist of Mass Starts in St. Paul's Bay, Nadur Gozo and the gruelling San Martin circuit.

Over fifty foreign cyclists have so far registered to take part, whilst from the Maltese scene the organisers expect to see current two-time female Champion Marie Claire Aquilina (Team Greens)  attempt to make it a triple win in a row as well as welcome riders the likes of Maurice Formosa (The Cyclist), Christian Formosa (The Cyclist) and Etienne Bonello (Team Greens) to be on the starting line.

"The Tour ta' Malta is the pinnacle of cycling events in Malta - it always garners a lot of attention from both cyclists and cycling enthusiasts who make it a point to follow the race at each venue, " explained Jack Schiavone, Managing Director, The Cyclist. "We are very proud to be the main sponsor of this event, and we look forward to see some high level cycling in March"

Schiavone is no stranger to the Maltese cycling circuit. He represented Malta in the Small Nations, Mediterranean and Commonwealth Games and is one of the very few Maltese cyclists to have worn the coveted red Tour ta' Malta jersey.  Schiavone won the Time Trial events in 2004 and 2005.

"It is impossible for the Tour ta' Malta to be able to give a good race expierence without the support of companies like The Cyclist.  We are grateful for the support that The Cyclist has shown over the years. Without their support this event would not be possible" John Zammit, President, Malta Cycling Federation.

The 24th Edition of the Tour Ta' Malta will take place between the 22nd and 25th March.
