Less than 24 hours before MEP David Casa goes in front of Magistrate Bugeja to testify regarding the FIAU file and Minister Konrad Mizzi, both Casa and also the magistrate received a solemn warning.
Speaking at a Labour party meeting in Qormi, and in the presence of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, former minister Manwel Mallia warned that possession of a FIAU file is a criminal offence if handled by unauthorised persons.
Mallia had already given this warning in a speech in Parliament some time ago.
Prime Minister Muscat did not refer once to the issue in his speech.
Mallia also had words of warning to Magistrate Bugeja. If someone were to appear in front of the magistrate with a banned file, the magistrate was duty bound to inform that person of the risk he was risking. And if that person were to persist, the magistrate is duty bound to apply the law, Mallia said.
David Casa replies:
In a post on Facebook, David Casa said it is "disgraceful for a former police minister to advocate for abusing the law in order to conceal the criminal activities of his colleagues. Let me be clear Manuel Mallia - I am ready to be arrested if it means exposing the truth."
