PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami accused the government of "coverups" with regards to the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, while speaking in Parliament this evening.
After PM MP Jason Azzopardi asked Minister of Transport Ian Borg as to whether he knew about the removal of the three billboards that were put up by Occupy Justice and removed on Friday, Fenech Adami asked the minister whether he had watched the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, which he stated Occupy Justice was inspired by.
Following objections to the question, Fenech Adami said that the question was not hypocritical or ironic, and that the question was asked as the billboards were inspired by a true story which occurred in the USA, "which had similar dynamics to those in Malta today", where the government is involved in "coverups" to prevent Daphne Caruana Galiza's murder being solved.
Borg responded to opposition's questions regarding the billboards, saying that he did not know that the billboards were to be removed before or that he or anyone in his ministry where involved in their removal since the Planning Authority is independent and autonomous. The action was the PA's initiative, he said. He added that since they were illegal they were removed.
Fenech Adami also asked the minister whether he was aware of the operation to remove the billboards, in which Borg replied he was not and nor should he be.
Borg also confirmed that the three billboards were also found to have been stealing electricity from Enemalta, in response to Deputy Speaker Claudette Buttigieg, who asked if other billboards were also removed on the day.
