Tuesday, 20 February 2018, 09:17 Last update: about 7 years ago

Nationalist MP Karol Aquilina has failed the good governance test, according to the Labour Party, which quoted a reply to a parliamentary question.

In Parliament it was revealed that during the Lawrence Gonzi government, Aquilina had worked on a contract enabling him to take compensation in case there was a change of government.

Earlier, Aquilina had also earned compensation of €10,402 for having worked at the OPM - meaning that the compensation was bigger than his wage, the PL said.

Aquilina had also benefited from thousands of euros in consultancy fees, the PL said.

In a statement, Aquilina said he is proud to have served under two PN prime ministers and his contribution on a professional basis was paid for on a system established by Labour PM Alfred Sant.

In a counter-statement, the Labour Party said that Aquilina did not deny receiving the compensation as indicated in the answer to the PQ.

Aquilina is among the first to speak of good governance but after what was revealed he no longer has the credentials to do so.
