7th edition of the BRND WGN & University Ring Road Races

Tuesday, 20 February 2018, 09:43 Last update: about 7 years ago

Sunday, 11 March will mark the seventh edition of the BRND WGN & University Ring Road Races, an event that has gained quite a reputation for itself, with half the proceeds being donated to Hospice Malta.

"What makes this event so special is the fact that it attracts such a wide range of people, from serious runners looking for a good sharpening race, to families wanting a Sunday out with a bit of a difference, to people in search of an opportunity to keep fit while doing something with friends, to companies utilising the relay as an ideal team-builder. The races are also an ideal opportunity to bridge the gap between University students and staff and the general public," organiser Johanna Galea from Malta University Holding Company Ltd said. "We also have a live DJ on the day as well as face-painting, bouncy castles and food stalls - the atmosphere is always buzzing! The icing on the cake is that we support Hospice Malta and we can't wait to reach even greater heights this year."

Hospice Malta is the official charity of the BRND WGN and University Ring Road races. It is a non-profit organisation supporting patients with terminal illness and their families, through its many professional services provided free of charge.

Throughout the day, various races will be held including a 5km and 2km running or walking event open to all abilities. The day will close off with the much-anticipated relay event which requires teams of four people to run a total distance of 5km - a favourite among offices (especially since there are prizes for the top three corporate teams) as well as groups of friends. An 800m children's race will also take place around the university athletics track.

Murphy will take part this year too and will run for Hospice Malta. Details at http://www.zaar.com.mt/projects/murphys-marathon-hospice-malta/
