Friday, 23 February 2018, 13:08 Last update: about 7 years ago

The global leg of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola landed for the first time ever in Malta on the 10th of February 2018.  The FIFA World Cup Trophy was accompanied by the FIFA legend Christian Karembeu and was welcomed at the Malta International Airport by H.E. The President of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Maria Micallef, COO of GSD Marketing Ltd.

On the plane Karembeu handed over the FIFA World Cup Trophy to H.E. The President, following which, a live press conference at the Ministerial Lounge was held with the participation of the above together with Dr. Matthew Paris, Vice-President of the Malta Football Association.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy was then exhibited at the newly refurbished Suq tal-Belt, giving the unique opportunity to over 4,000 lucky football fans to have their photo taken with the iconic trophy.  In addition, fans could also enjoy a range of football themed activities such as Penalty Shoot Out challenges on the PlayStation, competing with friends in a classic game of table soccer or browsing through official merchandise of the FIFA World Cup provided by Adidas.  Throughout this experience fans could also admire a selection of original World Cup gears worn by legendary players such as Pele and Maradona. Moreover all those who visited this event took home with them a FIFA Trophy Tour themed Polaroid photo and a FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour memento.

"We are honored that we have been able to give football enthusiasts in Malta a once in a lifetime chance to see the trophy and also have their picture taken with it.  As football fans around Malta gear up for the 2018 FIFA World Cup our Company, GSD Marketing Ltd, wanted to offer a memorable experience before the start of this tournament and we are very pleased with the successful outcome of this event and the overwhelmingly positive feedback our Company received," said  Maria Micallef, COO of GSD Marketing Ltd.

This year the FIFA World Cup Trophy will visit 91 cities across 51 countries, with its final destination being Russia.  For Malta, like for other some countries, this will be the first visit ever.

GSD Marketing Ltd would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have made this event a success in particular FIFA, The Coca-Cola Company, The Office of the President, The Government of Malta, Malta International Airport, DC Aviation, Signal 8, Kenneth Formosa for loaning the football gear exhibition and the Malta Police Force.
