Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening has revealed that discussions with the European Commission and other relevant stakeholders regarding the financial package Malta will receive in the next EU budget have already begun.

The current budget is due to expire in 2020, and will be spread over a 7 year period.

Prior to 2020, the EU budget invested heavily to boost the economic development of Malta, however, this will no longer continue. Muscat said that he has put forward proposals which will be for the benefit of Malta.

Regarding Brexit, the PM agreed with the EU Parliament's proposal on how the seats will be distributed following the UK's withdrawal from the union.
