Masters Football: Champions Mosta beaten again, in relegation zone

Monday, 5 March 2018, 18:39 Last update: about 7 years ago

In the MAPFRE /MSV Life MASTERS LEAGUUE, WARDIJA won an interesting game against MOSTA SHAGGY’S 6-5 to keep challenging for the title. Champions Mosta lost again and it is really the big surprise of the season that so far they won only one game and are in great trouble trying to avoid relegation.

They surprised also in the game itself when they were playing well in the first half taking  lead of 4-2.  But they were a different team in the second half and let Wardija to fight back inspired by the man of the match Michael Borg Olivier who scored a hat-trick. For Wadija, these were  three important points to keep themselve with the top three.

In an other game from the same championship, RABAT with Chris Muscat again leaving his mark being the best player of the game, they beat the stiff challlenge of B’Karra. Rabat with this win made a further step forward to avoid relegation. Not so good for B’Kara who are still in the danger of being relegated. Up to the end of the first half Rabat had a lead of 3-1. However after the change of ends B’Kara fought back but Rabat were still there and managed to control in the defence to win these three important points.

We had only one game from CISK MASTEERS DIVISION ONE LEAGUE with JIVAL winning  against ZURRIEQ WOLVES  6-2.  Zurrieq Wolves had  no luckat all, they not only lost the game but were unfortunate to have some players injured and could not keep the pace with their opponents. With this win Jival are still with a chance of fighting for promotion.

VALLETTA GETTING NEAR      -    GOOD WIN FOR ZURRIEQ WOLVES

VALLETTA ST. PAULI had a merited win and a double against Melita 8-4 and is getting nearer to win the title in the CISK MASTERS DIVISION ONE LEAGUE.  At the beginning one would expected that Melita would be giving a much harder opposition. They shared play, but before the break Valletta took a lead of 4-2. Melita the team behind them in second place were dominated in the second half and Michael Galea, top scorer of he league so far, was well covered by the Valletta defenders. But he was also very unfortnate on some occasions.  Valletta had a player that made all the difference, Gilbert Agius, who not only scored five goals, but was always dangerous whenever he got the ball. He is an exceptional player that is continueing his brilliant career in Masters competitions. But Valletta is not only Gilbert. They form a very strong team  and all the players guided by coach Etienne Sammut are well prepared phyisicallly.  As for Melita in the second half they did not react and goalkeeper Sean Sullivan was kept very busy and denied Valleta from further goals with some good saves.

ZURRIEQ WOLVES had a good win beating TARGA GAP  7-4, their third win in the league to go joint fourth in the standings. From the first whistle, Zurrieq Wolves gave their intension of beng successful and before the break they built an advantage of 4-1. At the beginning of the second half Targa Gap played much better and reduced the score to 4-3, but Zurrieq Wolves quickly reacted and scored three to the one by their opponents.  Their player Roderick Caruana was voted as the the best  player of the game and scored two goals to help his club getting these important three points.
