As part of this season's Teatru Manoel BOV Opera Week, Teatru Manoel will be presenting a concert by the renowned flutist Rebecca Hall and pianist Lucia Micallef on Thursday, 8 March at the Manoel.

The flute has always held a special place at the opera. From Carmen's entr'acte to Norma's Casta Diva and Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, solos for the flute have become an integral part of the dramatic and musical action.

In this recital, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra's principal flutist, Rebecca Hall and leading Maltese pianist Lucia Micallef take the audience on a journey through some of opera's greatest compositions. Join them to hear the stories behind these immortal works and the melodies that resonate in our hearts long after the final curtain call.

The programme includes Handel's Lascia ch'io pianga (Rinaldo), Three Arias from Acis and Galatea, Shepherd, what art thou pursuing?, Love in her eyes sits playing, Love sound the alarm, Gluck's Minuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits (Orfeo), Mozart's trilogy; Dove Sono, Un aura amorosa and Die Zauberflőte, Tchaikovsky's Lenski's aria (Eugene Onegin), Chopin's Variations on La Cenerentola and Bizet's Fantasie Brilliante sur Carmen (arr. F Borne).

The Flute in Opera concert is part of the Teatru Manoel Opera Week which is being dedicated to the memory of Maestro Joseph Vella. The Opera Week includes Don Giovanni (5, 7, 9, 11 March) and concerts by renowned pianist Vassilis Varvaresos (6 March) at the Manoel and by soprano Miriam Gauci with the Goldberg Ensemble conducted by Michael Laus (10 March) at St Augustine's Church, Valletta.
