Get ready for a laugh-out-loud evening of witty comedy at the MADC Playhouse this weekend, with the debut of Neil Simon’s California Suite.

Written by the same author as the popular play The Odd Couple, which the MADC produced in 2016, this show presents four comedic shortsthat all play out in a luxury hotel suite.Each scenario has its own storyline: In 'Visitor from New York' a divorced couple argue over custody of their daughter, while in 'Visitor from Philadelphia' a man wakes up to a comatose prostitute and his wife about to arrive. Next up, in 'Visitors from London' an actress frets over her Oscar nomination and her doomed marriage, while, in 'Visitors from Chicago',two couples end a disastrous vacation that they really shouldn’t have shared to begin with.

The foursome of plays – which each run for 30 minutes – is being directed by Justin Kyle Camilleri and Joe Depasquale.“California Suite was an obvious choice for us to direct for a variety of reasons,” say the duo, “chiefly that it is written by Simon, who is undoubtedly one of the world’s funniest playwrights. Outside America, most of his work tends to get overshadowed by The Odd Couple, which is his most famous play, so we felt it was time to introduce audiences to another one of his works and preferably something which hadn't already been staged locally.”

The show deals with a myriad of themes such as marriage, regret, infidelity and the pitfalls of fame. “Reading this you'd assume you were about to watch a heavy drama, but in Simon's hands these four short plays about desperate people in even more desperate situations end up being both immensely funny and surprisingly poignant,” the directors add.

And it isn’t just the script that will delight but the fantastic cast too – which includes Stefan CachiaZammit, Maria PiaMeli, TarynMamoCefai, Edward Caruana Galizia, Jovan Pisani and Christine Borg.
