Updated (2): 24-year-old man dies 'after being punched' during argument in Paceville

A 24-year-old man from Swieqi died early on Sunday morning after being involved in an argument in St Julian’s, the police said.

The accident took place at around 6:30 am in Triq Santu Wistin corner with Sqaq Santa Rita.

The police said the man had been involved in an argument with a number of other people and, as a result, fell to the ground.

The youth was named as Zachary Meli (picture below). He was reportedly punched.

An ambulance was called and the victim was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital but he was certified dead a short while later.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit was informed about the case and is leading a magisterial inquiry.

The police are speaking to a number of foreign nationals about the incident.

It is being reported that at least one Bulgarian national has been detained.
