Two persons died today in separate traffic accidents, one on the Coast Road and the other in Mgarr.

A 36-year-old man of Fgura, Daryl Aloisio (above, left), died when he lost control of the bike he was riding and crashed into a barrier on the Coast Road, the police said.

He is the second biker to be killed on the Coast Road in 24 hours. On Sunday, Giulio Baldacchino lost his life in another accident.

Police said the man lost control of his motorcycle and crashed at around 2.25pm, and was taken to hospital where he later was certified as dead.

In a separate accident, also at at 2.25pm, a 23-year-old woman was killed in Mgarr, the police said.

In a statement, the police said the woman, Jess Micallef (photo, right) opened the door of the car while it was still moving and jumped out. The car was being riven by a 24-year-old of Zabbar.

The woman, who was a volunteer with St John Rescue Corps, suffered serious injuries and was certified dead on site.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia is conducting two inquiries.
