Tuesday, 10 April 2018, 12:38 Last update: about 9 months ago

VALLETTA ST. PAULI after beating ZURRIEQ WOLVES in their last game, made sure to be crowned champions of the CISK MASTERS DIVISION ONE LEAGUE and also gaining promotion to the PREMIER DIVISION next season. Guided by player coach Etienne Sammut Valletta deserved the title with an all-round team mainly focused on their star player Gilbert Agius. They dominated the first round winning all their games. However, it was not so easy in the second round. Being chased by Melita and Jival, they lost two games to remain uncertain of the title till the very last game against Zurrieq Wolves.

With Gilbert Agius their star player and Jonathan Buttigieg scoring two goals each Valletta went for the break with a good lead 7-1. In the second half.  VALLETTA were still the better team, although Zurrieq showed progress with Alistair Camilleri being their best player.

JIVAL having their best season so far since joining Masters, kept their chances for promotion when they beat TARGA GAP 7-6 in an entertaining baanced game with the final result uncertain up to the end.  They now have to play a decider against Melita. Jean Pierre Abdilla was his usual self-helping his team with three goals, whilst Kurt Coleiro also scored a hat-trick for Targa Gap.

Interesting also the last games in the MPFRE/MSV Life PREMIER MASTERS LEAGUE, a 'grand finale' between Dingli Desana and Marsa White Stars. DIngli according to present form should beat Mosta and hope Wardija beat Marsa and win the title. Marsa if they win against Wardija they will be crowmed champions.  However, we might also have a decider if Marsa get only a draw against Wardija.

In their last game DINGLI culd only manage a draw against Watdija, whilst Marsa WS easily beat Rabat. Who will finish as the league top scorer? At the moment, with one game left Gilbert Scerri of Marsa is leading with 39, and Simon Shead of Dingli is just behind with one goal less.
