Gold Coast 2018: Brian Galea takes bronze medal in trap shooting at Commonwealth Games

Maltese Trap Shooter Brian Galea won bronze medal at The Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018.

Brian had a very good start with 24/25 in his first round and missed also only one clay in his second for anther 24/25.

He was leading with 48/50, followed by The British shooter, Aaron Heading with 48/50 (count back rule), and Mitchel Iles Crevatin from Australia with 47/50.      

In the final three rounds of qualification, he managed 23/25 in all three rounds, to finish with a score of 117/125, tied in sixth place with Kynan Chenai from India.

In the final shoot-off between the two for a place in the final round, Galea beat the Indian competitor 4-3. Brian hit all his four clays while Kynan missed his fourth clay. 

In the final, Galea managed 36 hits which secured him third place, behind gold medallist Michael Wixey from Wales with 46/50 and the English Aaron Heading who placed second with 43/50.

Brian was assisted with his coach Frans Bugeja during this event. 

This is the fourth medal won my Maltese shooters at the Commonwealth Games, after another two bronze medals were won by double trap shooter William Chetcuti and a silver medal won by Rebecca Madyson in earlier competitions.

Malta’s commitments at the XXI Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast have now come to an end, all that remains is the closing ceremony which will take place on Sunday 15th April at the Carrara Stadium and which will see Brian Galea proudly carry Malta’s flag as the contingent walks into the stadium.
