PN leader Adrian Delia stressed the point is not the bar in question, but the company being kept when visiting the bar.
He was responding to questions about allegations that Economy Minister Chris Cardona was spotted chatting to one of the three men accused of murdering Daphne Caruana Galizia sometime after the assassination.
Another witness had said the minister was in the bar at the same time as the murder suspect at one point before the murder.
In a heated Parliamentary debate on the Cardona allegations, Deputy Prime Minister pressed Delia to say whether he had ever visited that bar since it was close to his home.
In comments to The Malta Independent, Delia admitted that he had been there before to buy things or have a drink with his wife, since it is just 100 metres away from his home.
Asked whether he had ever spotted the minister around the bar, or possibly in his car in the vicinity, Delia said: “Yes I have seen him, not particularly while he was in his car. When I go it’s literally walking distance away from my home.
“The most important thing is not who goes into bars, but the people who are involved. As for the bar, per se, there is nothing wrong at all. It is one thing to go there to buy a few things, the point is not the bar, but the company kept.”
Cardona denies having any knowledge of ever speaking to any of the murder suspects.
