Registered unemployment at 1,954; 26.2 per cent drop when compared to 2017

In March, the number of persons registering for work stood at 1,954 decreasing by 26.2 per cent (695) when compared to the same month in 2017.

Data provided by Jobsplus for March 2018 indicated a decline of 621 persons registering under Part I and a decrease of 74 persons among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register.

Registered unemployed dropped among all age groups.

Irrespective of how long they had been registering for work, the number of registrants decreased when compared to March 2017. The largest decrease was recorded among persons who had been registering for work from 21 to 52 weeks.

The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work also dropped by 18 when compared to the previous year reaching 286. Men accounted for 77.6 per cent of total registrants with a disability.

The largest share (24.1 per cent) on the unemployment register sought occupations as clerical support workers, of which, 18.6 per cent were men and 37.3 per cent were women.

The registered unemployment rate in November 2017 stood at 1.1 per cent of the labour supply, (excluding part-time employment) and varied from 1.3 per cent among men to 0.9 per cent among women.
