This year's winner of the competition for FameLab Malta is Dr Anthony Galea, a lecturer from the Department of Geosciences, Physical Oceanography Research Group, at the University of Malta's Faculty of Science.
FameLab is a global science communications competition whereby science enthusiasts share their knowledge and engage the public in effective ways through a three-minute talk. This year, the locally organised FameLab Malta competition hosted seven finalists on Friday, 13 April at Esplora Science Centre. A professional panel of adjudicators judged the finalists based on the content, clarity and charisma of their talk.
Anthony was also awarded the Public's Choice Award for his Flying Doughnuts, a talk in which he demonstrated the science behind wingtip vortices.
Anthony will represent Malta in the 2018 FameLab International competition at the Cheltenham Science Festival, UK in June and will compete for the title of FameLab's best science communicator with more than 25 other global countries.
The local FameLab Malta competition was organised by Esplora in collaboration with the British Council Malta and Arts Council Malta.
