San Giljan were made to fight extremely hard for a sei final victory against Neptunes who gave a heroic performance. Two goals by Matthew Zammit in the final session were crucial as Jake Tanti was also instrumental with some brilliant saves.

The first session was an animated affair ending 3-3. Peter Borg put San Giljan ahead, but Matthias Azzopardi equalised for Neptunes. Paul Fava restored the lead for San Giljan with Niki Lanzon equalising with a fine shot. San Giljan went ahead 3-2 from a Dino Zammit penalty with Jeremy Abela equalising for the third time for Neptunes who appeared pretty feisty.

The second session was a less high scoring affair ending 1-1. Neptunes went ahead for the first time in the match through Nikolai Zammit but Ben Plumpton equalised for San Giljan with the half time stage registering perfect parity between the neighbours.

Neptunes took the upper hand in the third session scoring twice through Jordan Camilleri and Jeremy Abela but Andreas Galea and in the dying seconds, Peter Borg made it all to play for in the final session. Ben Plumpton and Miguel Zammit were sent off with substitution as the game turned rather physical.

Jordan Camilleri put Neptunes ahead but two goals from Matthew Zammit decided the encounter with Tanti also performing some fantastic saves at the death to deny Neptunes and for a final score of 8-7 in San Giljan’s favour.

Sirens pull off dramatic extra time victory over Sliema

Sirens Greentube pulled off a memorable victory against Sliema Frank Salt with a goal in the second period of extra time deciding the encounter.

Sirens came out strongly in the first session scoring two goals without reply. Isiah Riolo struck first with Jacob Sciberras scoring the second from a man up situation. The second session ended 1-1 with Zach Mizzi pulling one back for Sliema only for Luke Caruana to score again to maintain the two-goal advantage for Sirens at the halfway point.

Sliema turned the tables around in the third session winning 3-0 through goals from Michael Spiteri Staines, Kai Dowling and Zach Mizzi. However, the fourth session proved to be a thrilling affair ending 3-2 in Sirens’ favour and extra time. Jacob Sciberras made it 4-4 with Zach Mizzi making it 5-4 for Sliema. Edward Aquilina restored parity only for David Fenech to put Sliema 6-5 ahead. Clint Mercieca equalised for Sirens to lead the match into extra time.

The first session went on without much incident although Grixti performed a fine save off Bugelli in the dying seconds. Jacob Sciberras managed to score what would be the winning goal in the final minutes of the second period of extra time. Grixti saved off Bugelli in the dying seconds to register a memorable second victory for Sirens.
