Declarations of assets: Ministers and MPs reveal their holdings

The Malta Independent on Sunday has continued to compile the information on the declarations of assets of Parliamentary MPs that were submitted at the end of April.

Earlier in the week, this newsroom reported that Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has curiously declared to Parliament that he holds exactly same amount in bank deposits, down to the last cent, since his declaration for the year 2014 (as at 31 December). It was also reported that Opposition Leader Adrian Delia’s declaration revealed a substantial amount in loans, totalling €713,356.

Transport Minister Ian Borg has €15,887 in his bank accounts and reported ownership of five properties, including two offices, one apartment, one field and one Rabat property used as his matrimonial home. Borg has a bank loan he still needs to pay off.

Justice Minister Owen Bonnici has nearly €10,000 in the bank and owns three properties. He also declared himself an Associate Lecturer at the Faculty of Law.

Equality Minister Helena Dalli registered an interest as a shareholder in a number of companies, including PADA builders, ELCAR Development Ltd, PR Company Ltd, PLJ Dalli Ltd, P+D investments Ltd, Parklands Ltd and TADAR/TADAK Ltd. She also declared two companies currently in liquidation: PD Construction Ltd and PLJ Ltd. She declared bank accounts totalling €60,000.

PD MP Marlene Farrugia declared two companies, both for land in Bulgaria, and properties in Birgu, Groningen (NL), Pembroke, Qrendi, Modica (Sicily), Zabbar, Zebbug and Zurrieq. She also declared two investment portfolios totalling just over €2 million. In terms of accounts, she declared a BOV property overdraft account of €2.2 million, a BOV dental overdraft of €59,000, and a few other accounts, each with a few hundred euros.

Environment Minister Jose Herrera declared part ownership, and ownership of a number of properties in Lija, Mosta, Sliema, St Paul’s Bay and Valletta. In terms of funds, he has around €263,000 in banks.

PN MP Kristy Debono declared that she has a current and a savings account with HSBC containing €110,000, and owns an apartment in St Julian’s, having made use of a loan. She also inherited one-sixth of a house.

Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Financial Services Silvio Schembri declared an office in Luqa, as well as an apartment through a loan. He declared €101,000 in savings, and has a €97,000 loan. He also declared having shares in MIDI and BOV, and bonds in MIDI.

PL MP Edward Zammit Lewis declared four properties, including those in Lija, Valletta and Nadur. He declared having stocks, bonds and shares valued at €105,000 but did not provide company names. He also declared having €25,000 in savings and an €85,000 loan.
