Customs Department officers stationed at the airport’s departures’ lounge seized undeclared cash from a Burkina Faso national who was due to catch a flight to Istanbul, the department said in a statement.

The passenger was screened during routine cash control searches that Customs regularly conducts at the departures’ lounge last Saturday.

The passenger was asked how much cash he is carrying to which he replied he has 1,500euros.

Following a search both on the passenger and his luggage, 15,000euros were elevated.

The undeclared cash was seized and the passenger was handed to the Economic Crimes Unit Police and was arraigned in court yesterday.

He was fined 3,750euros.
