John Vassallo and Marianne Noll, residents of St Julian’s, are sponsoring a concert with the Rotterdam Ensemble under the baton of Maestro Roberto Beltran Zavala and with the participation of Maltese mezzosoprano Clare Ghigo, oboist Jennifer Melville and local clarinettist Jessica Ellul.

“A CONCERT FOR FALLEN HEROES”, in commemoration of those who suffered or lost their life for the sake of freedom of expression, will feature music by Schubert, Barber, Puccini, Orff and Mahler. The concert will be held on Saturday 19 May 2018, at 8pm at the Old Parish Church of St Julian, known as ‘Lapsi Church’ (Lapsi Street, St Julian’s).

All proceeds from this concert will go directly into the Church’s restoration fund, and specifically to restore early 17th Century companion paintings depicting the Four Evangelists. These paintings in the Neapolitan Baroque tradition deserve to be studied and expertly restored. Their present state of conservation is poor, with that depicting St John requiring urgent intervention.
