Payments for the Civil Court Registry can now be made online, The Ministry for Justice has announced.

Previously, people may have either elected to send the money by cheque or in person at the Court Building in Valletta. Now, an individual will be able to enter into courts.gov.mt through their own court account, click on the link 'Pay Court Costs", fill in the details necessary and pay by debit or credit card.

The initiative forms part of a wider reform at the Department for the Courts of Justice, who have worked on a number of measures to continue improving the services which are offered to the public and legal professionals.

An electronic register has been set up for the interdicted or incapacitated; and for the publication of judicial acts from a number of courts such as the Small Claims Tribunal, the Administrative Review Tribunal, the Magistrates Courts, the First Hall of the Civil Court, and the commercial section of the Civil Court.

Apart from that, an electronic system a person can use to apply for a search into secret wills has also been set up, while individuals may also be able to apply to receive SMSs about case deferrals.

Legal professionals will be provided with online accesses to the details of cases, legal documents, and court orders.
