As a form of outreach towards schools, the French Subject Area within the University of Malta's Department of Languages and Humanities (DLHE) organised an activity for Year 6 students following their first language taster course in French.

The initiative was undertaken in an effort to instil in these young pupils an interest in foreign languages and cultures. This was a follow-up activity to a poster competition entitled Etre vedette, c'est chouette!, organised during the current scholastic year for Year 6 students by the Faculty of Education's French Subject Area. For this competition, 100 participants from 14 schools carried out some research on a French celebrity of their choice and entered their poster into a competition.

During the prize-giving ceremony held at the University on 30 April, 65 primary school students had fun playing language games organised for them by MTL and B.Ed. students preparing to become teachers of French. The DLHE offered all students present a French culinary speciality and all poster competition participants received certificates of participation while the winners were awarded certificates of merit by the DLHE. The winners were also presented with book prizes by the Embassy of France and the Centre franco-maltais. The young female winners were also delighted to receive trendy presents offered by the Embassy of France, while the boys enjoyed finger-licking French chocolate.
