Man arrested after breaking into several parked cars in Sliema

A man who broke into a number of parked cars in Sliema was caught red handed by police early on Tuesday morning.

The police were called to the scene after the man was spotted stealing from vehicles in Triq Guze Howard. District police officers and Rapid Intervention Unit personnel arrested the suspect in Triq Sir Adrian Dingli. The man tried to flee when he saw the approaching officers but was apprehended shortly after, the police said.

Officers found that a car had had its window smashed. The suspect was also found to be carrying a knife. It later turned out that a number of other vehicles had been broken into.

The suspect is being held for questioning.
