The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Meryl Streep is set to star in The Laundromat.
Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas are also in early talks to join the production. There are currently no distributors for The Laundromat, but Netflix is reportedly eyeing it.
Steven Soderbergh will be directing the film. His frequent collaborator Scott Z. Burns wrote the script for The Laundromat.
The film is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jake Bernstein‘s nonfiction book, Secrecy World. The book dives into the story surrounding the Panama Papers, which was the largest data leak in corporate and government history.
Bernstein was part of the international team of journalists who are members of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists that broke the story of the Panama Papers two years ago. More than 11 million records were leaked as a part of the papers sourced from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.
Among those listed in the Panama Papers were Minister Konrad Mizzi and OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri, both of whom opened companies in Panama secretly soon after Labour was elected to government in 2013.
