Lands Authority CEO resigns to take up new role

Friday, 18 May 2018, 12:04 Last update: about 7 years ago

The Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects said that today Minister Ian Borg accepted the resignation submitted by Lands Authority CEO Carlo Mifsud. The resignation was offered in light of an opportunity given to Mifsud by the same ministry to coordinate the process for the setting up of a new authority which will be operating within the ministry.

This new authority will have the function of regulating the construction industry with the aim of having one regulator which holds within it the functions currently held by the BICC (Building Industry Consultative Council), the BRO (Building Regulations Office), BRB (Building Regulations Board) and the Masons Board. This is expected to be an important step in the strengthening of regulation and enforcement in this industry. In fact, this was one of the electoral promises which this government is committed to implementing.

At this stage, Peter Mamo will be appointed to serve as Acting Chief Executive Officer for the Lands Authority. Mr Mamo currently fulfils the role of Deputy CEO. This will be done so that the authority can carry on with its functions until a call for the position of CEO is issued and the appointment process is complete. The ministry thanks Mr Mifsud for the service he gave this authority and looks forward to seeing the reforms expected in these sectors continue taking place with the aim of reaching the public’s expectations.
