Updated: PL says Depasquale ruling shows Busuttil, Casa want to waste ‘court’s time’

The ruling given today by Magistrate Francesco Depasquale is a clear indication that former PN leader Simon Busuttil and MEP David Casa want to waste the court’s time, the Labour Party said in a statement.

The PL was referring to a ruling by which the magistrate rejected a request for a new investigation into OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri and Minister Konrad Mizzi, but referred the complainants to an inquiry that is already under way.

What Busuttil and Casa wanted was a repetition of what is already being done, which would be a waste of time and resources while hindering the efficient running of the investigation, the PL said.

This is a clear condemnation of the behaviour of Busuttil and Casa, the PL added. The ruling shows that the two want to waste the court’s time by resorting to recycled stories in a bid to open new investigations.

In reply, Busuttil and Casa and that the courts had comcluded that Mizzi and Schembri should be investigated, together with Nexia BT's Brian Tonna and Karl Cini.

Last July, Magistrate Ian Farrugia had also reached the same conclusion. The people now expected the Prime Minister to stop defending them and allow the investigation to continue without any more hitches.

The PN invited Mizzi and Schembri to drop the appeals that are hindering the progress of the investigation.
