17% more Maltese can keep their home adequately warm since 2013

The number of Maltese people who are unable to keep their home adequately warm has rapidly plummeted over the past years, according to studies by Eurostat. 

In 2013, 23.4 per cent of the population were unable to keep their home adequately warm, whilst in 2017, the percentage dropped by 17 per cent  to 6.4 per cent, even falling below EU average, which stood at 8.2 per cent in the same year.

The largest drop occurred between 2014 and 2015, where the percentage fell from 22.1 per cent to 13.9 per cent, an 8.2 per cent decrease. It fell by another 7.1 per cent between 2015 and 2016.

 

Share of renewable energy well below EU average

Meanwhile, the report, titled ‘Affordable and clean energy in your country’, shows that the share of renewable energy used by Maltese as a percentage of the gross final energy consumption is still well below EU average, although it is slowly bettering.

Whilst the percentage stood at 17 per cent in 2016, Malta lagged behind with 6 per cent. The graph shows Malta being on a somewhat steady incline since 2009.
