The Malta Cycling Federation road race national championship started on Sunday 13th May 2018 with the race held at St Paul’s By-pass.
Christian Formosa of The Cyclists made his twelve laps in 1:55:36.02 to finish first in an exciting photo finish with William Hili of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC which in 1:55:36.19. In third position ended Maurice Formosa of The Cyclists in1:55:37.74.
Marie Claire Aquilina of Team Greens finished first in the Women's category when it made its eight laps in 1:24:48.97. She was followed by teammate Michelle Vella Wood in 1:25:05.86 and Hannah Pace of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC finish in third position in 1:25:13.83.
The Masters 40+ category was won by Malcolm Cachia of The Cyclist CC finished his eight laps in 1:20:56.88. Ivan Zammit of Birkirkara St. Joseph SC ends up second in 1:21:00.11, while Mario Attard of Team Greens came third in a time of 1:21:27.03.
The Masters 50+ category was won by Mark Schembri of Mosta AF Sign Studio ended up his eight laps in 1:21:06.60. Steven Andrew Bell of The Cyclist finished second in 1:21:12.89, while third place was taken by Steve Mifsud of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC in 1:21:49.50.
Isaac Spiteri of The Cyclists won the Juniors category finishing his ten laps in 1:47:44.05. Behind him ended second Gianluca Camilleri of Birkirkara St. Joseph SC in 2:00:31.77.
The Under-16 category was won by Malcolm Vassallo of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC finishing his five laps in 53:01.09. Behind him came his teammate, Sean Enriquez respectively in 54:48.95 and Mika Zammit of Agones SFC came third in55:49.30.
The Under-14 Girls category was won by Kristina Spiteri of The Cyclists who did her three laps in 34:59.43. She was followed respectively by two cyclists from Mosta AF Sign Studio CC, Justine De Giorgio (37:29.66) and Bettina Falzon (46:24.01).
The Under-14 Boys category was won by Matthew Galea Pirotta of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC in 32:11.90. He was followed by Luke Joseph Camilleri, also of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC in 35:22.58. Third place was taken by Gabriel Bonnici of Agones SFC in 35:38.27.
The Boys Under 12 category was won by Miguel Galea of Team Greens ending his half lap in 07:53.10. Second place ended Isaac Bonnici of Agones SFC in 07:57.07 and in third position finished Jonas Micallef of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC in 08:35.16.
After the race, medals were distributed to the winners in the various Age Group categories by John Zammit and Joe Bajada, President and General Secretary respectively of the Malta Cycling Federation.
