MoU signed between Malta Industrial Parks, CPD to supply water for fire-engines, safety training

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Malta Industrial Parks, which falls under Economy Minister Chris Cardona’s remit, and the Civil Protection Department, which falls under Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia.

The agreement has been signed for four bowsers to supply fire engines with the necessary water needed, in particular to put out fires in industrial zones which can be more dangerous due to exposure of sensitive materials and chemicals.

The agreement will mean a €190,000 investment by MIP. Minister Farrugia said that after the latest fire within a large factory at Hal Far, the need was felt for the CPD to be supplied with more water bowsers. Two of the bowsers can take up to 20,000 litres of water while the other two can take up to 40,000 litres.

This will serve to save time and money because prior to this agreement, bowsers from the private sector were used. This was explained by Economy Minister Chris Cardona, who added that the agreement will help MIP with fire drills, training on prevention and how to put out fires and the launch of an emergency line directly with the CPD to be used in the case of a fire emergency.

Cardona said government is working not only to bring more work to Malta industrial zones but to also maintain and improve them.
