President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca is being urged to intervene on the embryo freezing law that was passed through Parliament on Wednesday with the Opposition voting against.

Following the second reading and the subsequent vote in parliament on the amendments to the Embryo Protection Act, so many Maltese are now experiencing a deep sense of hopelessness, Gift of Life said in a statement.

We see you (the president) as the last hope in very dark days.   We are fully aware that what we are asking of you that is no small matter as it is a difficult and most critical matter for you to discern.

“We are asking your Excellency to become that voice that is not being heard. The voice of the most fragile and defenceless human in Maltese society. Future active members of society whose rights are being trampled upon from the outset. Of all human life in its infancy. The voice of those who are on the verge of losing their right to life and their dignity as human beings.

“You should know that we are asking people to keep you in their hearts and minds. We are encouraging those of faith to pray for you and those who know you to encourage and support you," Gift of Life said.
